The Livermore Enterprise, April 3, 1875
"DIED.  At his ranch in San Ramon Valley, Contra Costa county, Cal., March 28,
1875, Joel Harlan, aged 46 years and 6 months.  Deceased was a resident of this
State since 1846, and highly esteemed by all who knew him.  He leaves a large
number of relatives and a host of friends to mourn his death.  The funeral was
the largest ever attended in the Valley." END

Additional Comments:
"The Livermore Enterprise" was published at Livermore, Alameda County,
California.  Joel Harlan was the husband of Minerva Jane Fowler.  He was the son
of George Harlan and Elizabeth Duncan.  George Harlan and his family traveled
overland to California in 1846.
