PASSED AWAY AT THE HOME OF PARENTS IN SAN RAMON. Joel A. Harlan well known resident of San Ramon and Walnut Creek passed away at the home of his parents Mr. and Mrs. Elisha C. Harlan in San Ramon Sunday [April 13] after an illness extending over a period of several years. His condition has been such for some time past that his friends have been expecting the end at almost any time but while his death is a shock and a surprise, yet it is not unexpected. Joel A. Harlan was a native of San Ramon aged 37 years and for years was engaged in the livery and undertaking business in Walnut Creek. He was a lover of fine horse flesh and while engaged in business kept several fine racing animals which have often been seen on the Contra Costa reace courses. He gave up his business about two years ago on account of ill health and has since been residing on the Harlan ranch in San Ramon. He leave one sister Mrs. Frank Davidson of Oakland."
