Fred H. Busher, pastor of the St. Luke's Methodist church, officiating. Active pallbearers will be Senator T. H. DeLap, Superior Judge A. F. Bray, Sheriff James N. Long, Police Judge Clare Horner, Attorney Tsar N. Calfee, and John L. Rhin, assistant, manager of the Bank of America. Seventy-five city and county officials and other friends of Mr. Milnes will serve as honorary pall bearers. Private commital services will follow at Sunset View cemetery. Mr. Milnes, owner and publisher of the Richmond Record-Herald and Contra Costa newspaperman since 1898, died Sunday following a brief illness. He was 73. A native of Eddyville, Iowa, he came to California when he was three years old, spending his early lifetime in Mendocino and Humboldt counties, and residing in Richmond for the past 33 years. During his newspaper career he established two newspapers, one at Pittsburg, then known as Black Diamond, and the other the Point Richmond Record. In 1912 he merged three newspapers, Record, Leader and Herald, under the name of the Record-Herald. Among survivors are his son, Grover E. Milnes, three daughters, Mrs. John Peterson, Mrs. Thelma Holtz, all of Richmond, and Mrs. Wilma deJong of Concord; a brother, Dr. Harold E. Milnes, pastor of the Methodist church at Burlingame and eight grandchildren."
