Mormon Island Relocated Pioneer Cemetery, El Dorado Hills, El Dorado County, California Submitted by Peter Kroff, Eagle Scout, August 1999 This file is part of the California Tombstone Project http://www.usgwtombstones.org/california/californ.html ********************************************************************** These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organizations. Persons or organizations desiring to use this material for non-commercial purposes, MUST obtain the written consent of the contributor, OR the legal representative of the submitter, and contact the listed USGenWeb archivist with proof of this consent. ********************************************************************** Location: Shadow Fax Lane, off of Green Valley Road, El Dorado Hills, California. This cemetery is just over the Sacramento County line and just beyond the borders of the City of Folsom. In 1954, the United States Army Corps of Engineers relocated the remains from several cemeteries that were located within the boundaries of what would become Folsom Lake. There are over 200 graves marked "unknown" which had no dates, therefore they are not reflected in this listing. Historians have been making efforts to identify these individuals through newspaper obituaries and other sources. In April of 1998, 12 new graves where added from the Prairie City Cemetery, which was displaced during the construction of the Highway 50/Prairie City Road on-ramp. These graves are also marked "unknown." If you would like to research further information on those buried in the Mormon Island Relocated Pioneer Cemetery, contact with the El Dorado County Historical Society may be beneficial. Data collected for Peter Kroff's Eagle Scout project. Completed 8/10/99 See PHOTOS located at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~casags/index.html P.S. I have received some valuable information that should be added to the Mormon Island Cemetery recording, which is in El Dorado County. I got an email from Su Silver who is the President of the El Dorado County Pioneer Cemeteries Commission (ssilver1951@jps.net) Here is her message: "You may wish to note that the cemetery is under the management and control of the Board of Supervisors of El Dorado County through its General Services Director. Karen Wilson is the present staff member who maintains the County's records. She may be reached at (530) 677-8525 or by email at kwilson@co.eldorado.ca.us. Please add to your page that information regarding documented burials now marked UNKNOWN may be obtained from the El Dorado County Pioneer Cemeteries Commission, 2551 Deer Trail Lane, Cameron Park, CA 95682 or by calling (530) 677-8525 or by email at ssilver1951@jps.net or suzi19@juno.com. You may also wish to mention that many people believe some graves were left behind in the original cemeteries that are unow under Folsom Lake. Since no plot maps or records existed, it was and is still, impossible to know how many graves were at each location."
