A. Bliss Passes Away Alphonso A. Bliss, one of Placerville's oldest and best known residents, died suddenly at his home on Sacramento street about nine o'clock last Saturday night. Death resulted from heart failure and was unexpected, although Mr. Bliss had been in poor health for several years. A. A. Bliss was born in Illinois on Christmas Day, 1842, and came to California 42 years ago. From that time until a few months before his death he had followed his occupation of painter and decorator. During later years, and until very recently, three of his sons--Albert, Will and Frank--had been associated with him in that business at various periods. Mr. Bliss was a widower, his wife having died several years ago. He had long been an officer in Morning Star Lodge No. 20, I.O.O.F., by whom the funeral was held in this city at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, with services by Rev. E. E. Clark. Interment was in Union Cemetery. four sons and two daughters survive: Steve Bliss, of Oakland; Albert Bliss, of Placerville and Sacramento; Will Bliss, of Richmond; Frank Bliss, of Sacramento; Mrs. Annie Simas, of Walnut Grove, Sacramento county; and Miss Susie Bliss, of this city.
