Elizabeth E. Richards

Death Claims Another of the Old Settlers in Placerville

After an illness extending over some two years, Mrs. Elizabeth E. Richards
passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth A. Weymouth, on Sunday
morning, August 13th.  She was a native of Cornwall, England, and 84 years, 1
month and 29 days old.  In 1852, the family came to America, her mother having
died previous to that time.  The family settled in Canada first, then moved to
Wisconsin and in 1862 came to California.  The deceased was a charter member of
Leona Rebekah lodge of this city.  She was also a member of the Methodist
Episcopal church of 71 years standing.  At the age of 17 years she married
Stephen Richards, and four children were born to them.  One died, but there are
still living three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Weymouth, Mrs. Susan Alderson
and Mrs. Selma Eustice, the former two residing in Placerville and the latter in
Gilroy.  Mrs. A. A. Bliss of this city is a sister of the deceased.  Many
grandchildren, nephews and nieces also mourn the death of Mrs. Richards.  Her
funeral took place from the Methodist church at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, and
the remains lay in state in the church for some hours previous.
