John David Alkire May 4, 1962 — May 1, 2004 Services will be Tuesday in Fresno for former longtime Tracy resident John David Alkire, 41, who died Saturday at his home in Clovis. A Tracy native, Mr. Alkire lived in town 20 years before moving to Clovis 21 years ago. He was a teacher at Weldon Elementary School in Clovis 17 years. Mr. Alkire graduated from Tracy High School in 1980 and went on to graduate from California State University, Fresno. An avid sports fan, Mr. Alkire’s favorite teams were the Oakland Raiders and St. Louis Cardinals. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church — Downtown Fresno, and he was a youth leader and taught “Growing Kids God’s Way.” He will be remembered for his devotion to family and his sense of humor. Mr. Alkire is survived by his wife of 14 years, Catherine Alkire; two sons, A.J. and Brad Alkire; two daughters, Alexandra and Emily Alkire; a brother, Victor Alkire Jr., and his wife, Marie, of Tracy; a sister, Janice Duncan, and her husband, John, of Tracy; parents Victor and Dixie Alkire of Tracy; four nieces; two nephews; seven great-nieces; and six great-nephews. Tuesday’s services will be at 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1540 M St., in Fresno. Visitation will be observed from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Farewell Chapel, 660 W. Locust Ave., Ste. 101, in Pinedale. Yost & Webb Funeral Home, 1002 T St., in Fresno, is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the John Alkire Family Memorial Fund, c/o First Presbyterian Church, 1540 M St., Fresno 93721.
