Book Title: History And Business Directory Of Humboldt County

BRIDGEVILLE

Is beautifully situated in a little valley or flat on the north side of the Van
Duzen fork of Eel river. The country surrounding is devoted to pasturage and
stock raising, and is the headquarters for many of those engaged in the pursuits
above alluded to. The sheep ranches in this vicinity are amongst the finest on
the coast. The town is so named from a bridge that crosses the Van Duzen river
at that point.
