In the immediate neighborhood are fine farming lands. It is one of the youngest communities in the county, and is fast forging ahead. It is situated on the line of the E. R. & E. R. R. Fortuna (Springville) had taken its name from the numerous springs in the locality in which it is situated. The name was afterwards changed to Slide and more recently to that of Fortuna. The central location of the town and the surrounding resources will bring Fortuna to the fore as a great manufacturing town. Fortuna is fully abreast of the times in the journalistic line. The Eel River Valley Advance, published by Leon F. Stinson, occupies a leading position among the papers issued north of San Francisco.
