Petroleum has been discovered near this place, from which it derived its name. The soil is very rich and productive. Dairying, farming and stockraising are the chief industries in this vicinity. At this point centers the large trade of the two valleys, and as a consequence there are several business establishments here which are prosperous. This section is attracting the attention of settlers as being a most inviting portion of the county.
