"MRS. EMMA HARLAN OF FORTUNA DIES.
Fortuna, March 12.  Mrs. Emma E. Harlan, 83 year old native of California, died 
here at her home yesterday after a lengthy illness.  She came to southern 
Humboldt 64 years ago and had lived in Fortuna over 40 years.

Mrs. Harlan is survived by her sons, Charles Betger of Scotia, Andrew Harlan of 
Fortuna; daughters, Mrs. Lottie Hawton of San Francisco, Elizabeth of Richmond, 
Mrs. Nancy Semple of Oakland, Mrs. Hazel Beets of Oregon and Mrs. Margaret 
Goodwin of Eureka, and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 o'clock in Fortuna 
Mortunary chapel with Rev. Andrew Juvinall officiating.  Interment will be at 
Newberg [sic] cemetery."

Additional Comments:
Humboldt Standard (Eureka, California).  March 12,1945 (Monday).   Emma 
Elizabeth Hutton first married a Mr. Betger, then married and divorced Andrew 
Jackson Harlan (1862-1934).
