(July 1, 1898) There is an old saying that a bad beginning makes a good ending and we hope this will be the case with our young friend Chas. Maggini, buttermaker at the Eel River Creamery. Charley was married Tuesday in the Ferndale Catholic Church, and Tuesday evening he stopped at Daugherty's cigar store to get a smoke, leaving his buggy horse standing outside. The horse took to his heels and ran away and Charley spent most of the night looking for him. Geo Gries found the animal early Wednesday morning at the Gries Lane, and strange to say no further damage to the outfit was sustained than a broken dashboard. But this is not all. Wednesday morning Charley drove up to the restaurant after his bride, and the horse refusing to stand, he struck him with the whip, and away he went down the street, colliding with Johnny Hansen's' horse and buggy from the Red Poll section... Anderson and Miss Fanny Warner, both of this place, were married Sunday evening at 8 o'clock at the Ferndale Catholic Church parsonage by Rev Father Kiely, a large number of friends of the happy couple witnessing the ceremony. After the nuptial knot had been tied all present repaired to the home of the groom on Rose Avenue where a wedding supper was served and where the evening was pleasantly passed. Canepa serving as groomsman and Miss Ethel Matthews as bridesmaid.
