Gonzales was born on 17 March 1955 in El Centro, California. He and his wife Karen Sue Smedley were married on 22 June 1974. He entered active duty with the United States Army on 10 March 1975. He received his basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and his Advanced Individual Training at Fort Polk, Louisiana. From July 1975 to November 1979 he was assigned to Fort Huachuca, Arizona. From December 1979 to February 1982, SSG Gonzales was with the Berlin Brigade in Germany. From February 1982 to the present SSG Gonzales was an instructor in the Basic Training Division, 1st Instructor Battalion (Prov). SSG Gonzales' awards include the Army Commendation Medal; two awards of the Good Conduct Medal; Army of Occupation Medal, Berlin; Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon; and the Army Service Ribbon. Staff Sergeant Antonio A. Gonzales is survived by his wife Karen and his two children Antonio A. Gonzales, Jr., and Korie A. Gonzales. Staff Sergeant Antonio A. Gonzales will be sadly missed as a soldier, friend and comrade-in-arms. Services will be at 0900 Hours 19 July 1983 in Center Catholic Chapel No. Two Fort Bliss, Texas by Chaplains (CPT) George G. Gonzalez, (CPT) Yettel J. Campbell and (CPT) Martin Kroeker with Military Honors. Burisl will be in Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Pallbearers 1st Instructor Battalion (Prov) SSG Steven C.
