Tucker tuckarb701@bellsouth.net March 7, 2007, 1:16 pm Imperial County Press Floyd Dale Earl Portwood, 73, of Seeley passed away of natural causes Tuesday, February 28, at home with his wife. Floyd was born September 15, 1932 in Holtville. He married Georgia Mae Jones on February 17, 1956 in Yuma, AZ. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War 1953-54. Floyd was the owner of two gas stations in the late 50's. He worked and retired at the Naval Air Facility as a bowling alley manager; maintenance supervisor and lock smith as a Civil Service employee. Floyd's grandparents were early pioneers of the Imperial Valley who brought the 40 mule train from Texas to build the All American Canal. Floyd's hobbies were going on weekends to the desert with friends and family, exploring, off-roading out in the desert, camping, hiking in Laguna Mountains and going on long adventurous rides with his wife and dog, "Rojo". Floyd also enjoyed fishing in various canals and the Salton Sea in the Imperial Valley. Visitation will be Sunday, March 5, 2006 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hems Brothers Mortuary in El Centro. Military services will be Monday, March 6, 2006 at Hems Brothers Mortuary commencing at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Floyd was preceded in death by his father, Henry Earl Portwood, step-mother, Opal Portwood; mother, Autie Nadine (Smedley-Portwood)Davis; step-father, Schriver "Daddy Doc" Davis; step-grandson, Chad Stewart and faithful compainion dog, "Rojo". Floyd is survived by his wife of 50 years, Georgia Mae (Jones) Portwood of Seeley; son, and daughter-in-law, Floyd Jr. "Sam" and Katrina "Kate" {Beam} Portwood of Seeley; daughters and son-in-law, Barbara Ann and Steve Tate of Turner,OR, and Vicki Lynn and Loyd McHone of Seeley; step-daughter and son-in- law, Sharon and Chales Stewart of Brawley, sister and brother-in-law, Lora Juanita and Eamon Mann of Yuma,AZ; brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Donna Davis of El Centro; grandchildren, Colby Stewart, Brandi Jacks, Jami Valenzuela, Samantha Portwood, Elvis Tate, Steve Tate, Jr., and Ernest Tate, and numerous great-grandchildren.
