Luis Alvarez Sr. 
Dec. 23, 1948 - Jan. 25, 2006 

Visitation for Luis Alvarez Sr. will be held at Basham Funeral Care (3312 
Niles Street) on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 from 11:00 - 1:00 p.m. with 
graveside services following at Hillcrest Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m. Luis was 
born December 23, 1948 in Valle Hermosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico and he passed away 
January 25, 2006 in Bakersfield, CA. Luis is preceded in death by his father, 
Gilberto Alvarez Sr. and his brothers, Gilbert Alvarez Jr. and Ernesto 
Alvarez. He is survived by his loving wife, Mariana Alvarez; son and daughter-
in-law, Luis Jr. and Heidi Alvarez of Bakersfield; son, Daniel Alvarez of 
Lamont; daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Victor Gastelum of Lamont; five 
grandchildren, Ashleigh Alvarez, Caleb Alvarez, Isaiah Leyva, Justine Alvarez 
and Breanna Gastelum; mother, Petra Alvarez of Lamont; brother, Enrique 
Alvarez of Bakersfield; sister, Linda Navarro-Perez of Lamont as well as many 
nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins and friends. Luis was also known to his 
family and friends as "Joe" and "huicho". Luis moved to Lamont, California and 
became a United States citizen at a young age. Luis lived in Lamont all his 
life and attended school at Lamont School District and Arvin High School. Luis 
worked in construction all his life and was proud of helping build a portion 
of the Kern County Court House. He was a member of the Labors Union Local 220. 
He was a cancer survivor, being declared cancer free in 1987. He was loved by 
all that knew him and he will be deeply missed. For additional service or
