Interment will follow at Union Cemetery. Pastor Hector Rizo will officiate. Pilar was proud to have been born in Fabens, Texas, the fourth of eight children born to Jesus and Lorenzo Arroyos. In 1954 the family moved to California and worked in the Central Valley. Pilar attended Fremont Elementary, Lincoln Jr. High and graduated from Bakersfield High School. She later attended Bakersfield Adult School for Vocational training and received her cosmetology license from Lyles Beauty College. Pilar became an accomplished hair dresser receiving several awards for her hair presentations. Her greatest accomplishment in her life was receiving our Lord Jesus Christ and led her family to Christ. Pilar had been saved for several years and praised the Lord until her final time. Her other accomplishments in life were that she sat on the Board of Directors for G.B.L.A. (Greater Bakersfield Legal Assistance) for 9 years, she was one of the founders of T.A.P. (Target Area Program) and she presided as President of Southeast Bakersfield Community Program. Pilar was the proud mother of two daughters who cared for her throughout her entire illness. She went on to be with the Lord surrounded by her family. Pilar had met the love of her life, Mario V. Ramos in 1989. Soon after their union they started their business, Mario's Custom Wrought Iron, that has continued to be blessed. Pilar was a wonderful mother that instilled great values in her daughters. The eldest, Monica Castellon Mattison and her husband Glenn Mattison Jr. and youngest daughter, Suzanne Calvillo and her husband Richard Steven Calvillo II. Pilar had 7 grandchildren who she cherished and loved very much, Julie Ann, Danielle, Glenn III, David Mattison, Samuel Christopher Padilla, Ricki and Madison Calvillo. Sadly she lost a sister, Petra Galvan in January of 1999. She loved spending time with her sisters, Teresa Gutierrez, Manuela "Nellie" Nunez, Estella Joven and her brother, Ignacio Arroyos. Pilar battled with her illness until her body could do no more. During her failing health her mind and wit remained sharp. Pilar will be deeply missed by her family and friends. The family would like to thank Odyssey Hospice care and all the caregivers that helped with Pilar.
