Monroe Browne, died at Fremont Memorial Hospital in Yuba City, California on October 13, 2005 of complications resulting from emphysema. Mary Frances was born February 8, 1918, the only child of Richard and Frances Ashby of Bakersfield, CA, where she met and married Monroe Browne in 1939. Together with her husband, Mary Frances maintained their home in Bakersfield, and their ranches in Nevada, and Yuba County and Placer County, California, and took an integral part in their quarter-horse breeding and racing program. She also assisted in the operations of the family business, McCoy Tire and Recap Company in Bakersfield, and was an active volunteer for the Red Cross. Mary Frances and her husband resided in San Francisco from 1975 to 2002, during which time she accompanied her husband in his service as OSHA Appeals Board member under Governor Reagan, and then as Ambassador to New Zealand and Western Samoa under President Reagan. Mary Frances and her husband then retired to their cattle ranch in Wheatland in 2002 to raise thoroughbreds and roses, where she resided at the time of her death. Mary Frances bore three children, Elizabeth Ann Denny, Richard Allen Browne, and David Ashby Browne. She is survived by her husband, Monroe; her son, David and daughter-in-law, Rhonda; and her three granddaughters, Terri Ann Browne, Lesley Wright Browne, and Cindi Ashby Browne. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 17, 1:00 p.m., at Grace Episcopal Church, 610 Third Street, Wheatland, and interment will follow at Wheatland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the National Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., 17th Floor, Chicago, IL 60601.
