Little Buddy Atencio was born in Bakersfield on March 28, 1966 to Albert Buddy Atencio and Kathleen Conn Atencio and was called home on October 12, 2005. He is survived by his father, Albert Atencio; sisters, Yvette, Tammie, Adrianne and Hannah; children, Tristan, Anastasia, Sebastian, Alexander and Courtney; nephews, Christian, Skylar, Talon and niece, Randalyn of Bakersfield; and stepmother Marilyn Ruiz also of Bakersfield. Buddy is also loved and survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Buddy was preceded in death by his mother Kathleen Conn Atencio and grandparents Joseph and Lucia Atencio. Buddy was born and raised in Bakersfield, attended local schools and obtained his G.E.D. in 1988 having received the highest score of all students taking the exam that year. He was a very loving, intelligent, polite and handsome man who adored not only his children, but also the siblings of his children. He was a man of many different facets throughout his life. As an adolescent he loved Star Wars, Dungeons & Dragons, playing video games and rock music. He loved being with his many relatives and friends at family gatherings, and there were many. As a teenager his interests leaned toward punk rock music, wearing a Mohawk, hanging out at Tangents Nightclub and cruising Chester Ave. with his friends. Whether he was in trouble or out of trouble his friends were by his side and he by theirs. Through the years he remained fond of reading novels ranging from Roald Dahl, Tom Clancy to JRR Tolkein. Buddy also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles that many of us would find baffling. He loved his music and most recently loved taking pictures with his digital camera. Buddy brought joy and happiness to many through his accepting and nonjudgmental personality. He was a friend to everyone he met. He was, and always will be our Little Buddy. Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy. May you be happy and at peace now, Little Buddy. We love you always. Your Family Mission Family Mortuary Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian on 10/18/2005.
