Brundage Lane. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 30, 2005, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Johns Baptist Church, 1401 E. Brundage Lane. On October 13, 1960, James was born in Houston, Texas to the parents, Charles and Billie Avery. James departed from this life on September 20, 2005. He attended elementary and junior high school in Pacoima and was a star Track and Field athlete at Polytechnic High School in Sun Valley. James moved from Pacoima to Bakersfield in 1982 to pursue his college education at Cal State Bakersfield, where he was a member of the Track Team winning numerous awards. In 1985, James won the Cal State Intermediate Hurdles and set a record of 50.55, which to date has not been broken. James was a devoted father, son, brother, uncle and friend. He loved the outdoors and spending time with family. He was a successful entrepreneur and owner of Avery Air Conditioning Service, which became to be a household name in Bakersfield and surrounding communities. James loved his community and loved helping young people. He always tried to surround himself with people who wanted to make a difference. James was loved and highly respected. With his smile, he touched the lives of all who met him and James will never be forgotten. His mother, Billie Avery; grandparents, Clarence and Willie Mae Dimes and Charles Avery, Sr. preceded him in death. He is survived by his son, Maurice Avery; daughter, Breanna Avery; 3 grandchildren, Keshawn, Maurinique and Marcella Avery; his special Lady, Darcel Moore, all of Bakersfield; his father, Charles Avery, Pacoima; sisters, Glenda Lomax, Lenora Wesley, both of Bakersfield, Elaine Avery, Van Nuys; one brother, David Avery, Palmdale; two brothers-in-law, Michael Lomax and Hosea Wesley and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
