Anaya Services: Mon., July 25, 9:30 a.m. Graveside services will be held in Union Cemetery, Potomac and King Streets, for Fernando L. Anaya, 90, who passed away July 19, 2005, in Bakersfield. Rev. Ricardo Magdaleno of St. Josephs Church will officiate. Mr. Anaya was born on September 12, 1914, to Leon and Luz Anaya. He retired as Captain from K.C.F.D. Wasco Substation after 31 years of service. Mr. Anaya served in the U.S. Army during World War II, G Company, 3/508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Parachute Wings with 2 stars, for combat jumps on June 6th D-Day and in September in Market Garden in Holland in 1944, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign WWII, European-African Middle Eastern Campaign, and World War II Victory ribbon, Belgian Fourragere and other service ribbons and awards. He was a charter member of the 82nd Airborne Division Association, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment Association, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Veterans of Foreign War #7216 and American Legion Post #26. Mr. Anaya is survived by his sister, Connie Pettibone, of Bakersfield. He was preceded in death by siblings, Louise Gonzalez, John Anaya, Marie Yanez, Fred Anaya, and Leon Anaya, Jr. A special thank you to Optimal Hospice and to Larry Anaya, his nephew, for his loving care given this past year. The Anaya family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Fernandos loyal friend, Ed Donahue, for his many kindnesses, favors and visits.
