Antt January 31, 1916 May 2, 2005 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 6, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ The King Catholic Church for James P. Antt, 89, who passed away in Bakersfield, May 2, 2005. Rev. Monsignor Stephen Frost will be the celebrant. James was born in Wilkes-Barr, PA on January 31, 1916 to immigrant parents Charles Mrowczynski Antt and Casimira Lekoski Antt. At 16, Jim showed his independent spirit and set off to earn his way in the world. By the time he came to California in 1946, he had a wife and two children. With the birth in Ventura of his son, Rob, Jims family was complete. In 1953, the move to Bakersfield held a new adventure for Jim when he was asked to be terminal manager for Orr Tank Lines, followed by 22 years at Witco Chemical (Golden Bear) as an outside salesman. These positions somehow became structured to include his wife Annie, whether as a dispatcher or his bookkeeper. Jim loved being out on the road and never missed an opportunity to talk with a trucker and check out the latest equipment. Throughout his life, he was a trucker at heart. Known for his ability to recognize someones needs and find just the right fit, Jim was always being sought whether a farmer needed a storage tank or a city needed a used fire engine. He took great pride in connecting things and people. Everyone who knew Jim was aware he had his own code for living that basically embodied the notion that if anything is worth doing its worth doing right! He was a man of his word and didnt deviate whether the deal included money, materials, labor or something promised for the future. Survivors include Annie, his special girl and wife of 66 years; and children Barbara Ross and husband Dick, Jim Antt, Jr. and his wife Faun, and Robert Antt and his wife, Jeanette of Encinitas; 8 grandchildren, Jeff Ross, Linda VanSolkema, Stephen Antt, Suzanne Tasos, Bradford Antt, Jessica Antt, Nolan Houston and Bergen Houston. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, Mikinzi, Madison, Morginne, Jodi, Megan, Anna, Johanna, Michael, William, Lauren and Nathan. During the last 15 years, we have all admired dads protective care-giving role of our mom which he assumed with enthusiasm and love. Together they gave all of us a daily example of the value of hard work, compassion and commitment. We will miss you dad. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ The King Building Fund, 1800 Bedford Way, Bakersfield, Optimal Hospice of Bakersfield, or favorite charity of your choice.
