Baldwin Services: Fri., Nov. 18, 1:00 p.m. Paul grew up in Bakersfield where he attended Bakersfield High School and Bakersfield College. He was a three sport letterman at both and attained JC All American football honors. He then transferred to UC Berkeley and excelled in football as an All Pac 8 member of the 1950 Rose Bowl team and track holding the NCAA record in the javelin throw. He graduated in 1951 with a degree in Education that launched him in a career that included coaching positions at UC Berkeley, Chico High School and Capuchino High School. He was a teacher, Dean of Boys and Principal at Capuchino High and also the principal at Peninsula High School. He was one of the innovators of continuation education in the state of California. He retired from the San Mateo Union High School District as Assistant Superintendent. He moved from the Bay Area to San Diego in 1989 and has resided there since. He is survived by his daughter, Jeannie Edge of Escondido; his son, Dennis Baldwin of Palm Desert and his granddaughters, Shannon and Cassidy Edge and Jessica, Katy and Laura Baldwin. Paul was known by family and friends for his warmth and compassion towards all. He loved spending time in the California mountains hiking and fishing and passing time with loved ones playing poker and cribbage. A memorial service will be held Friday, November 18th, at 1:00 p.m., at the Summerduck Pond, 1826 Skyline Dr., Escondido CA. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations will be accepted to the San Pasqual Academy, c/o Crown Consulting, P.O. Box 181407, Coronado, CA 92178.
