J.R. Ball Services: Wed., Dec. 7, 2:00 p.m. Harry Junior J.R. Ball, 73, died on Thursday, December 1, 2005 at Redlands Healthcare Center of heart failure. J.R. was born in Mound City, MO. He grew up in Los Gatos, CA and graduated from Los Gatos High School. His education was continued at San Jose Bible College (SJBC) where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Theology and met his future wife, Marilynn Francis (who gave him the nickname J.R.) Later in life he returned to school at Pacific Christian College (PCC) of Fullerton to earn his Masters of Divinity. He served our country in the US Navy for four years, during the Korean War. Ordained as a minister in 1959, J.R. spent nearly 50 years preaching the gospel and ministering to those in need throughout California. The churches he served are: Long Beach First Christian, Porterville Christian, Lancaster Christian, Rowland Heights First Christian, Norris Road Church of Christ, Bakersfield, East Anaheim Christian, Hidden Valley Christian, Escondido, Montclair Christian and Lake Elsinore Christian. Widowed at age 44, with four young children, J.R. never remarried but remained loyal to his children and congregations. J.R. will be buried with his wife, Marilynn Jane (Francis) Ball, who preceded him in death in 1975 in Bakersfield. He was also preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Elizabeth (Blazer) Ball, his father, Harry Lee Ball and his brother, Gerald Lee Ball. He is survived by his two sons and daughter-in-law, Randy of San Dimas, and Rob and Denise Ball of Bakersfield; his two daughters and son-in-law, Lynna Eskew of Bakersfield and Lori and Dave Robinson of Wildomar; his grandchildren, MaryLynn, Amy, Corey, Charlee, Kaitlin, Tyler, Aaron, Daniel, Rachel and Jordan; and his great-grandchildren, Connley, Zalie and Carson. A memorial service is planned at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at Christs Church of the Valley, 13701 Stockdale Highway, Bakersfield. The family suggests donations, in lieu of flowers, to William Jessup University (formerly SJBC), 333 Sunset Boulevard, Rocklin, CA 95765 and Hope International University (formerly PCC), 2500 East Nutwood Avenue, Fullerton, CA 92831.
