Richard was born Jan. 13, 1933 in Oneill, Neb. to Ira and Bernice Barnes. As a young boy, he moved with his family to Oregon. While serving in the U.S. Army in Korea, Sgt. Barnes was wounded in action. This resulted in his being awarded the Purple Heart Medal and the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars. Richard met Frances Ann Miller and they were married on Sept. 16, 1958 in Seaside, Ore. They moved to Tehachapi that same year where Richard began a 41- year career at the Monolith Cement Plant as a heavy equipment operator. He loved working in his yards and was very proud of his 29 rose bushes. Richard also enjoyed collecting old license plates. Richard is survived by his wife, Frances Barnes of Tehachapi; sons, Frank Barnes and his wife Diana of Vancouver, Wash.; Richard Barnes of Boise, Idaho; Anthony Barnes of Washington; and Shane Barnes of Vancouver, Wash.; grandchildren, Keith, Daniel, Sandee Ann, Cindy and Cameron; three great- grandchildren; brother, Duane Barnes and his wife Carol of Kelso, Wash.; sister-in-law Deanna Barnes of Tijard, Ore.; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and his beloved dogs, Bandit and Saber. Richard was predeceased by his brother, Gary Barnes, in 2005. Richard requested no services. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
