Beckham, 88, was born in Clarksville, Ark., on Oct. 7, 1917 and married Juanita Langston in 1941. Roy and his bride moved to El Paso, Texas in 1942 when he entered the military and after training Roy was assigned with the 8th Air Force in England. He flew 18 missions over Germany as a waist gunner on a B-17. After his discharge in 1946, Roy moved with his wife and son, Stan, to Tehachapi. Roy worked at the Portland Cement Plant in Monolith for several years. Then in the late 1950s, he became a sales manager with Kieffe & Son’s Ford for the Tehachapi and Mojave areas until he retired in 1979. Roy was a 32nd degree mason and member of the Tehachapi Lodge 313 Free and Accepted Masons for 51 years. He was very proud and delighted to receive his 50-year certificate of membership. Roy was also associated with the Shriners Caledonia Lodge in Bakersfield and assisted in placing many children in the Shriners Hospital for Children in Los Angeles, which was a cause dear to Roy’s heart. Roy passed away on Oct. 17 in Chula Vista. Roy was preceded in death by his wife Juanita and his brothers Harlan, Clyde, Earl and Warren. His dear son, Stan Beckham of Los Angeles, survives him. In lieu of flowers or food, Roy’s wish was for donations to be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children at: www.shrinershq.org/hospitals/donations/donate_online2.html or mail a check to In Memory Of, Office of Development, International Shrine Headquarters, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607-1460. A Graveside service was held Friday, Oct. 21, at the Tehachapi Public Cemetery, Eastside. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
