Dottie was born in Mulberry, Arkansas to Pet and Lillie Whitlock. They moved to Weedpatch, CA when she was very young. The family owned a general store, where she had her first job, at the soda fountain. She attended Kern Union High School, now Bakersfield High School, and graduated as a member of the class of 1951. She could often be found at Dewar's Ice Cream Parlor and was known as one of the Dewar's girls. She worked as a secretary for several Bakersfield businesses such as Hawk Oldsmobile, Barber Pontiac, CPA firms and Tenneco Oil. She later moved to Fresno, CA for many years, eventually returning to Bakersfield. One of her passions was playing the piano, and could be heard for many years at the Revival Tabernacle Church in Lamont, CA. She also taught piano in her younger years. She most recently played at New Life in Christ Church until just before her passing. She also loved to decorate and socialize with family and very dear friends. As Dottie entered the Kingdom of Heaven, she was greeted by her husband, Larry Bell; son, Lawrence Bradley Smith; parents, Pet and Lillie Whitlock; brothers, Lloyd and Aaron Daniel Whitlock; sisters, Vera Lee Anderson and Fleda Mae and brother-in-law, Leo David. She is survived by sons, Loren and Gary Smith; daughter-in-law, Oma Smith; grandchildren, Marcus Banducci, Jessica Smith and Kristofer Smith; great- granddaughter, Janie Banducci; stepson Trent Bell and stepdaughter, Kristy Bell and many very loved dear friends and family members. Dottie was always very friendly, social and gave unmeasurable love and kindness to those she knew and strangers alike. Her dreams were always to have her family and friends near to her, healthy and happy. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
