Stevenson Aug. 19, 1923 - Dec. 4, 2005 Janet was born in New York City to C. Ray Benedict and Sadie Johnson Benedict on August 19, 1923. As a child Janet moved to Syracuse, NY. After graduating from Marcellus High School in 1941, Janet entered nursing school at St. Josephs School of Nursing in Syracuse, NY. During that time Janet met her future husband, William H. Stevenson. Upon graduation, Janet was a Registered Nurse in New York and Syracuse areas. After their marriage, Janet and William moved to Huntington WVA, where William completed his college education at Marshall University. During their time in Huntington, Janet gave birth to her two children, Caren Sue and William Ray. After moving to Buffalo, NY, Janet returned to school to receive her B.S. degree in teaching. After almost 12 years in nursing Janet entered into teaching Vocational Nursing in Buffalo, N.Y., where she taught for over 18 years. Janet was a highly respected instructor by students and administrators. Upon retirement in 1985, Janet and William embarked on their dream. That dream included traveling this wonderful country in their 34 Pace Arrow. Janet and William became residents of Bakersfield in 1991 due to Janets heart condition. Janet was a loving devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Janet was preceded in death by her mother, Sadie and father, C. Ray and daughter, Caren Sue. She is survived by her devoted husband, William of almost 59 years, her son, William Ray and daughter-in-law, Laura and grandchildren, Ian and Evan, grandchildren, David Campbell and wife, Nancy and great-grandchildren, Zachery and Jacob and grandchild, Air Force Captain Shawn Campbell, his wife, Beth and great- grandchildren, Taylor and Carter and grandson, Colin Campbell. She is also survived by her niece, Rebecca Richardson and husband, Lance and daughters, Megan and Amy and nephew, Robert Gwinn, wife, Linda and daughter, Megan and son, Garrett. Janet was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She spoiled her family with love and support, had a great sense of humor and always was available to talk to about anything. Janet was affectionately called Nurse Watson for her ability to mend the wounds of the neighborhood children. Janet will be deeply missed and leaves a void impossible to fill. Her love and courage will surround us all forever. The family wishes to thank all the staff at California Care for their compassion and wonderful care while Janet was in Hospice. Our thanks also go out to Dr. Maddox, who provided Janet with years of great medical assistance and finally to the day patient staff at the Bakersfield Heart Hospital.
