Interment will follow at Greenlawn Southwest Cemetery. Ruth was born January 17, 1915 to Katherine and James Bivens. At the age of five Ruth lost her father. Times were hard and her mother could not care for all of her children, so Ruth and one of her sisters were put in an orphanage in Hot Springs, Arkansas. When Ruth was ten years old her mother came for her and her sister and moved the family to California. In 1933 Ruth met and married Alfred Palla. Ruth and Alfred became pioneer farmers in the Buttonwillow area, where they raised their three sons. After losing a son, Jerry, in 1958, Ruth and Alfred moved to Bakersfield. Alfred continued to farm in Buttonwillow. Ruth and Alfred were married for 62 years. Alfred died in 1995. Ruth loved to cook, make ceramics, create rugs, garden and play the organ. She also tutored students in English. Ruth was a founding member of the St. Marys Altar Society in Buttonwillow. Ruth is survived by her two sons, Alfred Palla Jr. and his wife, Janette of Buttonwillow, Don Palla and his wife, Cathy of Bakersfield; grandchildren, Sharon and Albert Ghilarducci, Diane and Sam Ghilarducci, Mark and Lori Palla, Kastle and Ryan Watson, Seri Palla, Haley Palla; and 7 great- grandchildren. Ruth is also survived by her faithful friend, Mildred Velez. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; her son, Jerry Lee; and all of her six siblings. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Sam Ghilarducci and Albert Ghilarducci and great-grandsons, Samuel and Jarred Ghilarducci, Jason Ghilarducci and Daniel Palla. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to CASA of Kern County, 2000 24th Street, Suite 130, Bakersfield 93301 or Alzheimers Disease Association (ADAKC), 5500 Olive Drive, Building One, Bakersfield, CA 93308.
