Jack 1924 - 2006 L. Jack Bradshaw, Ph.D. 1924 - 2006 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. L. Jack Bradshaw January 7, 2006, of natural causes in Ridgefield, WA. Born in Palo Alto, California December 3, 1924 to Judge William L. and Helen Bradshaw he spent the rest of his youth in Bakersfield, California, where he graduated from high school at Bakersfield High in 1942. Immediately following he served in the Navy, trained as a pilot, in World War II. After the war he completed his Bachelors in Biological science at Stanford University, graduating in 1950. The graduation ceremony with his two younger brothers was captured in Time magazine as a period piece, as the three had been at the university at the same time due to WW II service. At Stanford he earned the moniker "Boomer" as the pitcher on the softball team for his blazing pitching speed (120 mph), a pastime he pursued into his 70's. Dr. Bradshaw received his Ph. D. in Medical Microbiology in 1956 also from Stanford. During this time at school he met and married a San Jose State College coed named Shirley Bourquin, his lifelong companion. They relocated to San Bernardino, California with their young family for Dr. Bradshaw to assume his first teaching assignment at San Bernardino Valley College. It was there he made his reputation as a dynamic instructor, an exceptional student mentor, and cancer researcher. His vision of combining Biology, Chemistry, and Physics to explain the mysteries of life opened the door for him to found the Molecular Biology Institute at California State University Fullerton where he taught for 22 years. Retirement in the Pacific Northwest after was peaceful and productive. He revised his college textbooks and authored a work on nutrition and cancer. He is survived by his widow, Shirley, his daughters Christina and Claudia, his sons Jeff and Donald, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a brother, Richard, and sister, Sally. In lieu of flowers the Bradshaw family asks that donations be made to the "L. Jack Bradshaw Scholarship" fund. Please make the checks payable to C.S.F.P.F. with a notation indicating that they are for the L. Jack Bradshaw Scholarship. Cal State Fullerton Philanthropic Foundation, 2600 E.
