He played such a brave “I’m OK” game that the family was shocked at the sudden ending of his life. Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 23 at Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier. He was a champion to so many people, many of whom have come forth to tell of the positive good that he brought into their lives. As a young man, he served our country for two years, hoping to become a helicopter pilot. Indeed, he never lost his love for flying. Although he was a recipient of many degrees, his chosen vocation was as a painting contractor. His avocation was the food business, owning and operating the well known “Plums” in Century City for many years. Bob loved Tehachapi. The peace, the quiet, the blue skies and the wonderful people. He called it his “haven” and always said after a trip, “Ah good, we are going home.” He was a splendid, fun-loving man. His death has left us in great pain and sadness. He is survived by his loving wife, Catherine Bane; his adored children and grandchild, Jack Bane, Michelle Bautista and Jennifer Bane, who called him Poppy and released a white dove at his funeral service; daughter-in-law, Lou Anne Bane; son-in-law Max Bautista; sister, Joan Collins; niece, Cathy Archibald; nephew, David Harshberger; grand-niece and nephew, Shannon and Randy Alexander; stepchildren, Jeanne Evans, Janice Wood, Jeff Ramadan and John Ramadan; sisters-in-law, Celia Goszczynski and Beverly Overheiser; and brother-in-law Hank Robinson. He had a special place in his heart for Lara, Chris, Ruby and Trent. He loved all of us and we all loved him.
