Carlton Services: Tues., Sept. 6, 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Marys Catholic Church in Taft on Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. for longtime Taft resident, Lorraine Scheer Carlton, 84. Msgr. Loydell J. Marth, pastor of St. Marys will be the celebrate and burial will follow in the Wet Side District Cemetery. Mrs. Carlton was born in Ryan, Iowa to Alfred and Rosa Barfuse on March 7, 1921 and passed away in a Bakersfield hospital on August 31, 2005. She had lived in Taft for the last 63 years and was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church, the Y.L.I., Taft Women of the Moose and the Taft Emblem Club. Mrs. Carlton was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Donald Barfuse. Her survivors include her husband of 63 years, Art Carlton of Taft; her children, Jim Carlton and his wife, Rita of Riverside, Janice Rushing of Bakersfield and Judy Carlton of Petaluma; her sisters, Donna Graydon of San Marcus and Maxine Turner of Taft; her grandchildren Tim and Todd Rushing, Phillip and Troy Carlton, Kiyo and Toshi Morgan and Akemi Bunker; her great-grandchildren, Brock, Kallie and Luke, Kyle and Aidan, Josh, Lyle, and nieces and nephews. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. In lieu of flowers the family has suggested that donations in Mrs. Carltons name may be made to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina relief or St. Judes Childrens Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
