Winter Services: Thurs., Sept. 1, 1:00 p.m. A memorial celebration for Nina E. Winter will be held at Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel, Bakersfield, on Thursday, September 1, 2005, at 1 p.m. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Nina Elizabeth was born to Albert and Carolyn Blackburn on October 26, 1922, in Shirley Arkansas, and went to be with the Lord on August 29, 2005, at the age of 82. When Nina was 12 years old, her family moved to California, and she has resided in Kern County for approximately 70 years. She met the love of her life, Paul Winter, and married him on August 20, 1939. He referred to her as, His Miss Universe. She and her late husband, Pastor Paul Winter, founded Revival Tabernacle in Lamont on March 19, 1942. During her life as a pastors wife, she opened her home to many guests and showed her hospitality by cooking, and ironing a mountain of white shirts for visiting ministers. She was faithful to her family and served the congregants and the community for approximately 40 years. Nina will always be remembered for her love and commitment to her Lord, family, and her friends. Her words of encouragement and prayers have touched many lives, and she will be greatly missed by those who knew her. Survivors include two sons, Jerry, Bob and his wife Toni; daughter, Carol Manson and her husband, Vern; daughter- in law, Shirley; four brothers, Cleo, Leo, Lloyd, and Keith Blackburn; one sister, Betty Trout; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. A special thanks to the staff at Glenwood Gardens Skilled Nursing, where she has been a resident for 2 years. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 31, 2005 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hillcrest Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield.
