He was baptized on October 2, 1921 according to the Rite of the Roman Catholic Church. He grew up in New York City, attending local schools. In 1942 he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country until November of 1945. He received an Honorable Discharge, A Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and The Asiatic Pacific Service Medal. Being a very good Artist, he served as a Cartoonist Specialist, drawing for the company paper, Ka-Koolau. Upon returning from the Army, he settled in Hollywood and began working for UltraCircuits, Inc. in the Art and Graphics Department. There he met the love of his life, Grace Lee Brooks. He and Grace were married on February 19, 1956. They had one child, Charles (Tommy) Bonura on December 7, 1961. In the late sixties the family moved to Arvin to be near Gracies mother. While living there he and Grace met and became lifelong friends with Hayden and Reba Tidwell who became Chucks second family and his caregiver at the death of Grace in 1994. He began attending the Arvin Assembly of God Church with the Tidwells and there accepted Christ as his Savior. He will be long remembered for his wit, a kind and gentle spirit and being a Gentleman in every aspect. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Vito and Ninfa Bonura; his son, Tommy; three brothers, Sal, Jimmy and Tony Bonura; one sister, Mary Bonura. He is survived by one sister Antonette Biggs of New York City; sister-in-law, Marie Bonura also of New York City, Hayden and Reba Tidwell and family; his Church family and a host of friends. All who knew him, including the Staff at Carrington of Shafter, who gave him loving care for the past several months, will miss him greatly.
