Graveside services will be held Monday, March 14, at 1:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Southwest Cemetery. Derek is survived by his parents, Ken and Yoshie Bork, and his brother, Gregory. Derek and his little brother, Gregory were not only brothers, but the best of friends. They were inseparable and Derek would always take care of and teach his little brother. They loved each other very much. Derek enjoyed being a student at Ronald Reagan Elementary where he was an A student that loved mathematics and reading. He excelled in all his school subjects and was good at reading poetry, singing, and performing at class performances. He loved all his teachers and cherished his classmate friends. Derek also enjoyed playing the piano, AYSO soccer, and being a Cub Scout, where he was a Bear Scout. His favorite activity was playing Southwest Little League Baseball. Last year he played for the Rangers and was known for hitting triples and doubles. He was proud to wear the Ranger uniform and was chosen to be on the All-Star Team. Derek also enjoyed camping at Big Sur, watching a Dodger or Angel baseball game, visiting Legoland, the beach and San Diego. We would like to thank all of Dereks friends that prayed for him while he was battling his illness. These include our friends with Soka Gakkai Buddhism here in Bakersfield and nationwide. Special thanks go to Dereks teacher, Mrs. Sagers, and his classmates that would send the most heartfelt and well written get well cards. We would also recognize the Mullen, Wells, Haney, Ferguson, Ng and numerous other families for all of the support they have given us.
