Jack was born in Detroit, Michigan and moved to Los Angeles as an infant when his father accepted a position with Long Bell Lumber Company. He graduated from Van Nuys High School in 1939 and then went on to Los Angeles City College. While at City College he met Betty Greaves in a dance class. Courtship followed and the two were married in April 1943. Jack entered the Navy in December 1943 and served in the Pacific aboard the battleship, USS Alabama. After his discharge from the Navy in January of 1946, Jack resumed his civilian life with Betty. He enrolled at USC and two sons were born during his college days. He graduated Cum Laude in 1949 with a degree in Business Administration followed by a year of education to attain his teaching credential. In 1950, the family moved from Los Angeles to Arvin where Jack started his career in teaching at Arvin High School. In 1953, Jack transferred to the newly opened North High School. At this same time a third son was born to the family. During his tenure at North High, Jack taught bookkeeping and photography. After his retirement in 1981, Jack and Betty enjoyed traveling, church activities, family and friends. Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty; sister-in-law, Martha Goldstein; son, John and wife, Deloris; son, Jim and wife, Janet; son, Ken and wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Jennifer, Heather, Kristen, Michael, Paul and Lindsey. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to the Deacons Fund at First Presbyterian Church or your favorite charity.
