Visitation will be Sunday, March 13, 2005, from 12 5 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park. A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 14, 2005, at 9:30 a.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at St. Johns Lutheran Church, 4500 Buena Vista Road, Bakersfield. A luncheon will follow immediately at the church. Leonard came to California in 1940 to work for Consolidated Aircraft Corporation. In 1942, he entered the Army and served in the 3rd Army in Europe. After his discharge in 1945, he returned to California. He went to work in Bakersfield for Richfield Oil Corporation as a surveyor. He continued working for the oil company for 40 years until his retirement. The church was always at the center of Leonards life. He was very active at St. Johns Lutheran Church, serving as an elder, Bible study leader, trustee, and a faithful volunteer. Outside of his church activities, he served on the Advisory Board of Rosewood Retirement Community and was an active member of the Petroleum Pioneers and the Arco Retirees. His hobbies included woodworking, gardening, hiking, traveling, and playing Bridge. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Betty Jean Bruns; his daughter, Robin Rogers; and his sister, Leora Neumann. He is survived by his daughter, Joanne Alvernaz; and his son, Russell Bruns. He has one sister, Arlene Ruberg. He enjoyed spending time with his six grandchildren.
