Her parents Angela and Dick Sandrini were immigrants from northern Italy. They briefly returned with their children to Italy but soon came back through Ellis Island to settle permanently in the Central Valley. With Eda and her four siblings, the family bought land in Bakersfield where they made their living farming and ranching. Eda was the oldest child and was unable to attend high school so she could stay home and help raise her brothers and sisters as well as help on the farm. While having a limited educational background she never lost her desire to read and learn. Eda prided herself on staying current and up-to-date with the latest trends and in the vast knowledge she had tirelessly acquired. She married Frank Caetano in 1935 and they had two sons and a daughter. They lived in a beautiful home her husband built with immaculately groomed gardens and landscaping that she was proud of and was meticulous in maintaining. She spent many years working at Plantation Elementary School in the cafeteria where she happily worked with close friends and did what she loved cooking. At work or at home, she was always commander of the kitchen. Eda is survived by her two sons and daughter and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. As well as her many friends, her devoted caregivers and Hoffmann Hospice who rendered an incredibly loving and compassionate level of assistance in her final weeks. A graveside service is scheduled for Friday, January 27th, at 11:00 a.m., at Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorial donations be made in memory of Eda to Hoffmann Hospice, 5300 California Ave., Suite #1, Bakersfield, CA 93309.
