Robinson May 19, 1913 - Sept. 25, 2005 Joy C. Robinson passed away peacefully at her home, Sunday, September 25, 2005, in Bakersfield. Joy was born in Huntington Park, California on May 19, 1913 to Edwin L. Camp and Helen Boyd Camp. After attending local schools, she graduated from USC in 1934 as an English major. She was President of her sorority, Kappa Delta, wrote for the Daily Trojan and was named Outstanding Senior. August 1952 Joy received a Masters Degree in Education also from USC. She went on to teach English at East High in Bakersfield 1943-1953; was yearbook advisor; Girls Service Club advisor; and named Chairman of the English Department. Joy then became Dean of Girls at North High 1953-1974 and was Girls Service Club advisor. She earned her PhD from International College, La Jolla, California, June 1980. She became an MFCC October 1970 and had a private practice in Bakersfield until 2004. Joy was on the Board of Directors of the Child Guidance Clinic 1980-1985 and was a member of the Kern County Mental Health Advisory Board. She enjoyed traveling, studying Spanish and her membership in the French Club. She has two children, Edwin Robinson and Carolyn Barrett, both of Santa Barbara; seven grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren. Joy will be deeply missed by her family and friends. At her request, the Neptune Society will spread her ashes in the Pacific Ocean near Newport Beach. Special warm thanks to Hope Harris and Florazel Smith for their constant love and care. A remembrance in her name may be sent to H.E.A.R.T.S. Connection, 3101 N. Sillect Ave., Bakersfield, CA 93308. A memorial service is planned for a later date and will be announced.
