Cannan, 70, who died October 2, 2005, in Bakersfield. Wallace was born June 24, 1935 to Fred and Charlotte Cannan at Miss Freises Maternity Home in Bakersfield. He attended Roosevelt Elementary School, Emerson Junior High and Bakersfield High School graduating in 1953. He served in Europe in the U.S. Army, First Infantry Division the Big Red One from 1954-1957 and was discharged from Fort Riley, Kansas. His agricultural career started in 1957 at the Buttonwillow Warehouse. He was elected Constable of Buttonwillow, serving from 1960 1966, then resumed his agricultural career with Wallace, Clifford and Donald Houchin. He was also employed with the J.R. Brady Cotton Compress, Buttonwillow Gin Co., Calico Compress and Warehouse and the Houchin Cotton Company. He was a past president of Buttonwillow Lions Club and past vice president of Buttonwillow Chamber of Commerce, a member of Footprinters, American Legion Post #26, and the North Kern Mens Club. He loved golfing everywhere and fishing at Lake Powell, Utah and enjoyed meeting people and making many friends. He is survived by two sisters, Nancy Kinney and Margaret Kinney who both reside in the Southland; two nieces, two nephews, and a very special friend, Diane Intravia. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, Youth for Christ Organization, or the Kern County Special Olympics.
