Inurment will be private. Melvin was born in Bakersfield to Charles Dub and Mary Ellen Caswell on December 23, 1949 and he entered eternal life to be with those who have preceded him on October 27, 2005. He spent his youth in Lamont then on to Bakersfields east side where he grew into adulthood. After graduating from Foothill High in 1969, he was called to duty in the US Army and after boot camp he was stationed in Germany. Upon completing his service to his country, he came back home and attended Bakersfield College where he met his soul mate of 31 yrs, Shawn Marks. In their union he had the joy of having raised 2 wonderful children: Shannon, her spouse Michael Leist of Bakersfield, and Paul Edward Caswell of England and two dearly loved grandchildren, Hailey and Titus Leist. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Wesley Dub Caswell. Other survivors include his mother, Mary Ellen Caswell; brothers, Tommy Caswell of Bakersfield, Jerry Caswell and wife Barbara of Santa Maria; sisters, Carol Black and husband Robert of Bakersfield and youngest sister, Cheryl Lynn Caswell also of Bakersfield. He also leaves behind him aunts, uncles, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a beloved Son, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Friend who will be missed by all whose lives he touched. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the Melvin Caswell Scholarship Fund at Bakersfield College for future pipefitting tradesmen.
