At a very young age, she and her family moved to Bakersfield, California, where she resided most of her life. Ella attended local schools and graduated from Kern County Union High School. While in high school, she met the love of her life, Charles Moore. On January 13, 1937, she and Charles eloped and began their long, loving journey. At the time of her husbands death in 1992, Ella and Charles had been married for 55 years. When her son and oldest daughter were very young, they moved to the family dairy ranch off Highway 99 and Kimberlina Road, moving back into town in 1944. After Ella retired from Coffees Clothing Store, she and Charles moved to Port San Luis in Avila, California, where they lived on their boat and took up commercial fishing. In the late 1980s, they moved back to Bakersfield. Their marriage was full of adventure and excitement and there was never a dull moment raising four children. Boating, fishing, water skiing, hopping on the back of a motorcycle, and a wild ride on a toboggan were not uncommon. Family gatherings were special and mom always included and welcomed our friends. She and dad loved to travel and were often gone three months at a time. Many of those trips included boating and fishing along the way. She was a wonderful cook and known for her desserts, especially her Almond Rocha. Ella was also an excellent seamstress and liked to knit, crochet and needlepoint. She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles and had a deep love of music, especially hymns and the classics. The one thing she liked most was talking to people and no one was ever a stranger for very long. Ella was a longtime and devoted member of the First Christian Church. She sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School, and was actively involved with Crafty Christians, Christian Womens Fellowship, Sara Group and numerous church activities. Ella was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 125, and is a Past Worthy Matron. Once a month, Ella met with the girls, which they fondly referred to as Club. They formed their Club well over 50 years ago and met to talk about what was going on in their lives while sewing, knitting, crocheting and doing other handwork. Many changes took place over the years; however, their fond friendship for each other lasted a lifetime, never forgetting each other even after their Lord called one of them Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; son, Robert and parents, Frank and Ada Chamberlin. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Joanne Moore; daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Pete Waltman, Mary and Ken Terry and Shirley and Ron Walls; sisters, Frances Kelly and Rose Marie Williams; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Tuesday, October 4, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Monday, October 3, 2005. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the First Christian Church Music Ministries, 1660 S Street, Bakersfield, CA 93301.
