Pastor Leon Brokaw will officiate with Military Honors provided by the Am Vets Post 56. Steve was born September 27, 1917 in Mt. Shasta, California to Jacob and Katie Chorak and attended all local schools. He then graduated from University of California at Davis. Steve served his country in the United States Army during WWII in the European Theater from 1941 until 1945 where he attained the rank of Captain. He served as Tank Destroyer Unit Commander, 10th Armored Division, where he was responsible for administration, training and tactical employment. In 1946, Steve married Jo Ellen Lowery and the Chorak family lived in Visalia from 1946 until 1966 and he worked for Cal Marketing Assn. They lived in the Bay area from 1966 until 1970; in Porterville from 1970-72 finally moving to Bakersfield in 1973. He was last employed by the Tejon Ranch Company as Controller. Some time after his retirement, Steve was contacted by some of the children and family of the men and women who served under his command during his service in the Army, to find out history about their family members. He soon was communicating regularly with different members of those families and did so until his death. Steve was preceded in death by his brothers Louis, Francis and Jack Chorak. He is survived by his wife Jo Ellen Chorak of Bakersfield; his son Steven Chorak and his wife DAnn of Ft. Collins, CO; his sister Helen Heinrich of Sacramento; grandchildren Adam Chorak and his wife Marie of Chapel Hill, NC; and Erin, Laura, Katherine and John Chorak all of Ft. Collins, CO.
