Churchill Mar. 15, 1921 - Dec. 24, 2005 On December 24, 2005, Forest Randolph Churchill, Jr., quietly passed away and assumed his long-prepared place in God's Heaven. A celebration of his life will be held at the First Christian Church, 1660 "S" Street, Bakersfield, on Saturday, January 7, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. Forest was born to Forest, Sr., and Elma Denton Churchill on March 15, 1921, in a very small village in southern Indiana. He lived most of his early years in Marengo, Indiana, where he excelled in both athletics and academics. His college education at Purdue University was interrupted for four years by WWII, but he eventually graduated from the university with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1947. During the war, he served as an officer with the Army Infantry in many European campaigns until he was wounded trying to save another man's life. He earned the Purple Heart, the Silver and Bronze Stars and numerous citations for leadership and bravery. Mr. Churchill always said his greatest accomplishment was marrying his high school sweetheart, Imogene (Jean) Bernice Jones in 1941 and raising two children. Besides being a wonderful husband and father, he was also revered as an expert professional engineer. Many years of his engineering career were spent in Connersville, Indiana, with Roots Blower Company, a division of Dresser Industries. There he designed and built machinery that helped a post-war nation to project itself into a new era of productivity. Forest still found time to volunteer in his church, Boy Scouts of America, and to perfect his drive from the first of many tees. Eventually Forest and Jean moved to California where Forest continued work at his profession. In Seal Beach, Forest and Jean found many new and wonderful friends who shared their love of life, laughter, family values and faith. After retirement, they moved to Bakersfield to be closer to the beloved grandchildren. When not involved in the many activities of the extended family, "Church" and Jean would be off in their motor home, exploring the many beautiful areas of this country. Wherever they went, they returned with more friends to add to their already lengthy list. Forest was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly sixty years, Jean. He is survived by his two children, Ed and wife, Michelle; and daughter, Peggy Bainbridge and husband, Dennis; numerous grandchildren and one great- grandson; one brother, Kendall Churchill of Corydon, Indiana; many loving nieces and nephews. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations may be made in Forest's name to the charities of your choice or to the First Christian Church.
