His parents were Earl Bayer and Eva Lucille Clark. John was always very proud of being the grandson of the first settlers of Madison County, Iowa, Ruth and Caleb Clark. John attended Harlan High School in Iowa and attended Phillips University. Shortly after college, he and Lucille Marie Miller married in 1937. At the beginning of World War II, John enlisted in the Army Air Corp as a propeller specialist and instructor. He was stationed in India. After World War II, he and Lucille settled in Redwood City where he worked for Remington Rand. In 1954, they moved to Delano where they owned and operated Clarks Delano Office Supply for 25 years. Some of Johns happiest moments after retirement were spent living in Cambria and San Simeon and working at Hearst Castle as a Docent. John passed away peacefully on December 16, 2005 in Bakersfield, California. He was preceded in death by his lovely wife, of 65 years, Lucille. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Jean Clark and by his daughter and son-in- law, Jeanne and Danny Elliott, 5 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. After their move back to Bakersfield in 1991, due to poor health, John and Lucille were visited daily by family members. John was devoted to his family as they were to him.
