Lora married Marvin Copeland in 1933 and together they moved to California in 1941. After settling near Bakersfield, Lora gave birth to their only child, Linda. After the death of Marvin in 1965, Lora later met and married George Durkee in 1973. In addition to being a caregiver for most of her life she also worked in the food services department at Mercy Hospital. The oldest of six children to Amos and Maggie Rikard, she kept a watchful eye over her five siblings while growing up on a farm in Texas. She was a loving individual who taught the importance of family values, compassion, and caring about each other. A member of Trinity Methodist, and more recently Calvary Bible Church, she was involved in many church organizations dedicated to helping those in need. The original Supermom, she worked 40-plus hours a week, raised a daughter and maintained a nurturing household. A wonderful cook for her family, she also loved taking her granddaughters fishing and to see the wildflowers. She is especially remembered by her granddaughters for her secret recipes that called for a dash of this and a pinch of that. Lora is preceded in death by husband and father to Linda, Marvin Copeland; second husband, George Durkee; and brother, Clay Rikard. Lora is survived by her daughter, Linda and son-in-law, Don Dudonis; granddaughter, Amanda and her husband, Mark Bartlett; granddaughter, Amy Dudonis; siblings, Fay Walt, Bernice Sheffield, Harold Rikard, Evelyn Merriman; nieces, nephews and a loving circle of family and friends. Loras family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses and staff at California Care Center for their kindness, compassion and friendship while she was a resident. No visitation is scheduled, graveside services will be held Monday, January 30, 2006, at 1:00 p.m., at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd., in Bakersfield.
