Newton was born in Cave City, Ark., on Dec. 28, 1924. He and his wife Reba came to Bakersfield during the dust bowl era. Newton had many jobs in his life – working since he was 12 years old. He was last employed by Hughes Aircraft in Los Angeles where he retired after 29 years of service as a Class A Master Machinist. After retirement, Newton moved back to Kern County with his youngest son and daughter-in-law. He loved to fish, ride his bicycle and was a huge model train enthusiast. Newton is survived by sons, Terry G Corbit and his wife Dione, of Tehachapi; Robert Corbit, of Arkansas; and Mike Corbit and his wife Cathy, of Oregon; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, Paul Corbit and his wife Ann, of Arkansas. He was predeceased by his wife Reba in 1982. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
