Melba B. Dec. 25, 1921 - Jan. 27, 2006 Services: Thurs., Feb. 2, 2:30 p.m. Melba Cox, 84, died suddenly but peacefully under the loving care of Evergreen Nursing Facility in Arvin, after leaving her home in Tehachapi in 2004. It was her request to have a small graveside service. It has been planned for Thursday, February 2nd, at 2:30 P.M. for family and friends at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Park, 2739 Panama Lane. Melba was born 84 years ago on Christmas Day, (her favorite day of the year), in Sevire County, Utah to Isabella and Osveld Beck. Melba began her lifetime career of teaching during World War II. She married her one and only Soldier Boy Mel Cox on January 5, 1946. Her dream of teaching on the prairie almost became a reality as she began teaching for the El Tejon School District many years ago. Her good nature, kindness, patience and love of her co-workers and the profession of teaching will never be forgotten. She proudly retired after thirty-six years of teaching. Through these years it was a great joy to have daughters, their friends, and grandchildren in her classroom. At home there was always a house full, Melba had a deck of cards, dominos, clean sheets, a meal, homemade bread and a story with a smile for any person who knocked on her door. (Her doors were always unlocked for all to be welcomed and she was known to take in stray kids and animals!). She Shared her creative mind and artistic talents with many. Her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren have been blessed by her devotion to each of them. She loved babies! No matter what crisis may be happening at the time, she always handled the situation with love, dignity, wisdom, and grace. She verbalized to her family that she was anxiously waiting and ready to join her husband, parents, her family and Canasta partners in Heaven. Melba never lost faith in our Lord and loved to share it with others. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Mel; her parents, Osveld and Isabella; three brothers, Wade, Jay and Clyde; sister, Jenny; son-in-law, Charles Madewell and son-in-law, Royce Sharp. Left to cherish her memory are one son and five daughters, David Cox, Linda-Diane Brosmale and husband, Bob, Susan Madewell, Kerry Palmer and Dale Davis, Sandri Inman and husband, Denis, Karen Cerri and husband Michael.
