Loretta was an only child, born to Birchard and Miriam Cox on November 23, 1933. As a young girl, she was full of life and was the delight of her family and friends. She shared a love of the outdoors with her parents and spent many hours fishing with her father. Married at an early age, Loretta was not able to graduate from high school as scheduled. She quickly gave birth to four children, but after the fourth was born, she returned to night school and earned her high school diploma. During that time of her life, her hobbies included bowling, crocheting, sewing, and reading. She was a lover of music, old movies, animals, and crossword puzzles; but she was always a child at heart and also enjoyed Garfield, Snoopy, and Panda bears. Education was important to her and after raising her four children, she returned to school and earned her college diploma. Loretta worked for the Kern County Superintendent of Schools as a computer operator and programmer, and retired in 1990 after 20 years of service. She was able to live out her final years where she had always wanted to in the country surrounded by nature. She grew fruit trees and roses and enjoyed the beauty and sounds of the country. She found a little dog and nursed him back to health, then named him Tootsie. He was her constant companion. Loretta is survived by her four children and their spouses, Birchard Denney, Leonard and Jackie Denney, Charles and Diane Jackson, and John B. and Norma Denney. She loved her five grandchildren, Erika Denney, Brian (and wife, Heidi) Denney, April Denney, Richard Breeze-Jackson, and Spencer Denney, and in the last months of her life was so pleased to spend time with her dear great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Makenna Denney and Tyler Kueneman. Tootsie has been adopted by Kaitlyn and Makenna. Loretta would have liked that! In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her honor to the Order of Eastern Star, or the Shriners Hospital for Children in Los Angeles.
