He was born May 25, 1939, in Los Angeles, CA to Fredrick and Elaine Crawford. He served in the Army from 1956 to 1960. In 1960 he married Dianna Crawford. They lived in Bakersfield 27 years where he drove taxi while attending BC. He later worked as an oil tanker dispatcher for many years and was currently employed by BLM Trucking. Roy led a varied and interesting life. He loved to travel and passionately loved San Felipe, Mexico for reasons he could never articulate. He loved jazz and attended most of the local jazz festivals. He was also a key part of the 5-time undefeated Crawford team on Family Feud. In the movie Thelma and Louise he played the highway patrolman who arrested Brad Pitt and was an extra in Robot Wars. As for football, he never deserted the Rams even when they left for St. Louis. At 67, he towered above most men, but never thought of himself as above others. He lit up the room when he walked in. A great conversationalist, he was known for his storytelling and his hugs. He was always concerned with others well-being. Roy was preceded in death by his father, mother and brother, Carter George. A devoted husband and father, he took great pride in his family. He leaves behind his wife, Dianna; his four daughters and their husbands, Lisa and John Whetsler, Susan and Pete Tittl, Rachel and Jeff Ross, and Megan and Chad Luton. He is also survived by his brother, William Canney Carter, plus seven grandchildren. Legacy.com Published in the Bakersfield Californian on 10/12/2005.
