Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be said Monday, January 30, 2006, 6:00 p.m., at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2006, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Interment to follow immediately at Union Cemetery. Juana was born June 30, 1919, in Penuelas, Puerto Rico to Juan and Ignacia Hernandez, where she attended local schools. Juana was the first Puerto Rican woman to come to Lamont, California in 1954, at the age of 35. She worked for various farming companies while raising her 8 children. Juana was one of the original members of the Lamont Boricuas Unidas en California Association. She was born Catholic and was among the first parishioners to St. Augustine Catholic Church, where she attended Mass every Sunday. Juana gently passed away after a long struggle with an illness. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff at Memorial Hospital and a special thank you to Drs. Alpha Anders and Araceli Castenares and care providers Amalia Ruberte and Ana Cruz. Juana is survived by her sister, Paula Hernandez; sons, Harry Hernandez and wife, Kandy, Jaime Cruz and wife, Becky and Walter Cruz and wife, Laura; daughters, Lillian Ramos and husband, Francisco, Margo Alamillo, Zoraida Cruz, and Ana Cruz and husband, Martin; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
